Phenobarbital/ergotamine/bell is used to relieve symptoms of certain stomach/intestinal disorders such as nervous stomach ; symptoms of menopause including hot flashes (flushes), sweats, restlessness and insomnia; certain types of throbbing headaches; and certain heart/blood vessel disorders such as heart palpitations or rapid heart rate.

Uses
Phenobarbital/ergotamine/bell is used to relieve symptoms of certain stomach/intestinal disorders such as nervous stomach ; symptoms of menopause including hot flashes (flushes), sweats, restlessness and insomnia; certain types of throbbing headaches; and certain heart/blood vessel disorders such as heart palpitations or rapid heart rate.


Storage
  • Store at room temperature between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 to 30 degrees C) away from heat and light.
  • Do not store in the bathroom.


Overdose
  • If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately.
  • Symptoms of overdose may include blurred vision, dilated pupils, hot and dry skin, dizziness, dryness of mouth, and slow or shallow breathing.

How To Use
  • Take Phenobarbital/ergotamine/bell by mouth, usually one in the morning and one in the evening, or take as directed by your doctor.
  • Do not use daily on a regular basis.

Side Effects
  • Dizziness, drowsiness, blurred vision, nausea, constipation, heartburn, nervousness, headache, flushing, dry mouth, change in taste perception, increased sensitivity to light or a bloated feeling may occur.
  • If any of these effects persist or worsen, inform your doctor.
  • Notify your doctor if you develop: chest pain, rapid pulse, difficulty urinating, confusion, tremor, restlessness, skin rash, fever.
  • In the unlikely event you have an allergic reaction to Phenobarbital/ergotamine/bell, seek immediate medical attention.
  • Symptoms of an allergic reaction include: rash, itching, swelling, dizziness, trouble breathing.
  • If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.

Precautions
  • Tell your doctor your medical history, especially of: heart problems, liver problems, glaucoma, urinary problems, Parkinson s disease, muscle problems (myasthenia gravis), ulcers, any allergies you may have.
  • Because Phenobarbital/ergotamine/bell may make you dizzy or drowsy, use caution performing tasks requiring alertness such as driving or using machinery.
  • Limit or avoid alcohol consumption.
  • This combination product must not be used during pregnancy.
  • If you become pregnant or think you may be pregnant, inform your doctor immediately.
  • Phenobarbital/ergotamine/bell is excreted into breast milk and may have undesirable effects on a nursing infant.
  • Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.

Missed Dose
  • If you miss a dose, take it as soon as remembered; do not take it if it is near the time for the next dose, instead, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule.
  • Do not double the dose to catch up.

Drug Interactions
  • Infrequently, a very serious, life-threatening decrease in the amount of blood supply to the hands and feet (peripheral ischemia) and rarely to the brain can occur when Phenobarbital/ergotamine/bell is taken with drugs that affect liver metabolism (e.g., potent CYP 3A4 enzyme inhibitors).
  • Do not take Phenobarbital/ergotamine/bell with macrolide antibiotics (e.g., erythromycin, clarithromycin, troleandomycin), HIV protease inhibitors (e.g., retonavir, nelfinavir, indinavir, amprenavir, saquinavir), azole antifungals (e.g., ketoconazole, itraconazole).
  • Tell your doctor of all prescription and nonprescription medications you may use, especially of: digoxin, cyclosporine, saquinavir, ritonavir, sleep medicines, triptan drugs (e.g., sumatriptan), beta-blockers (e.g., propranolol), St John s wort, nefazodone, fluconazole, fluoxetine, fluvoxamine, zileuton, clotrimazole, other mild CYP 3A4 enzyme inhibitors.
  • Tell your doctor if you take any drugs that make you drowsy, such as: tricyclic antidepressants (e.g., amitriptyline), narcotic pain relievers (e.g., codeine), tranquilizers, certain antihistamines found in cold medicines (e.g., diphenhydramine).
  • Avoid eating grapefruit or drinking grapefruit juice while using Phenobarbital/ergotamine/bell unless your doctor instructs you otherwise.
  • Phenobarbital/ergotamine/bell may interfere with the effectiveness of birth control pills.
  • Discuss using other methods of birth control with your doctor.
  • Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.
