Side Effects
Although very effective in controlling reflux, I have had some very unpleasant side effects. These range from feeling generally unwell, through severe muscle pain, bladder problems (poor contraction) to an allergic reaction - severe rash & itching. Currently I'm on antihistamines and am still taking 20mg Nexium. The itching is still severe, but rash is disappearing. I'm not sure what to do next as I can't do without proton pump inhibitors (Nexium is the most effective).

Additional Thoughts
I never connected the two until 3 days ago ... all these symptoms and the nexium. It supposed to take 3 days for nexium to be completely out of your system but I still have all these side effects. I hope they go away soon. I had went to the dr complaining of these problems and he gave me antibiotics and told me to keep taking the nexium. After two rounds of antibiotics and 2 rounds of prednisone and reading about the side effects I determined this is my problem. NEXIUM! I wish I had never taken it!!!

Additional Thoughts
I have bee taking Nexium on and off for 2 years. For the last 3 months I have been taking 1-40mg daily. I have been cycling for 10 years riding avg. of 150 miles a week. I noticed this year I had no energy. Was riding 4 to 5 times a week and could hardly go. A fellow rider told me last week about the vitimin B absorbtion problem and other side effects he had from Nexium. I quit the Nexium last week and I could really tell the differance in my energy level. I was riding regularly and watching what I ate but could not see a weight loss. Now I see that others are having the same problems. I had never had the itchy rectum problem in my life untill a couple of months ago, when I started back on the Nexium on a regular basis. Thank God for my riding buddy and this site. I was about to give up cycling.
