Uses
Leuprolide is used to suppress early puberty in children.


Storage
  • Store vial and ampule of diluent at room temperature at 77 degrees F (25 degrees C).
  • Brief storage between 59-86 degrees F (15-30 degrees C) is permitted.
  • After mixing, discard any unused solution.
  • Do not freeze.


Overdose
  • If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately.

How To Use
  • Lupron Depot-Ped is injected into a muscle (I.M.) and must be used under close medical supervision.
  • This long acting form of leuprolide is called a depot.
  • It is slowly released into the bloodstream and is given at various intervals.
  • The dosing frequency depends on which product was prescribed by your doctor.
  • If you are directed to inject Lupron Depot-Ped yourself, make sure you know exactly how to use this and how often.
  • Consult your doctor or pharmacist if you are uncertain or have any questions.
  • Do not stop using Lupron Depot-Ped without your doctor s permission.

Side Effects
  • Lupron Depot-Ped may cause nausea, vomiting, hot flashes, night sweats; bone, joint or muscle pain; swelling of hands, feet or ankles; headache; vaginal dryness, inflammation or discharge; reduced sexual desire, mental/mood changes, dizziness, drowsiness, weight gain, inflamed gums, trouble swallowing, persistent pain at injection site, acne or difficulty urinating.
  • Notify your doctor promptly if these symptoms persist or worsen.
  • Notify your doctor promptly if you develop any of the following symptoms: rapid heartbeat, chest pain, fever, unusual weakness, testicular or prostate pain (men), vaginal bleeding (women).
  • In the unlikely event you have an allergic reaction to Lupron Depot-Ped, seek immediate medical attention.
  • Symptoms of an allergic reaction include: rash, itching, swelling, dizziness, breathing trouble.
  • If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.

Precautions
  • Tell your doctor your medical history, especially of: urinary problems, alcohol or smoking dependence, bone diseases, cancer/lesions of the spine, abnormal vaginal bleeding, any allergies you may have.
  • Limit alcohol intake, as it may intensify drug side effects.
  • Caution is advised when performing tasks requiring alertness (e.g., driving), as Lupron Depot-Ped may cause dizziness or drowsiness.
  • Leuprolide should not be used during pregnancy.
  • If you become pregnant or think you may be pregnant, inform your doctor immediately.
  • Discuss birth control methods with your doctor.
  • It is not known if leuprolide is excreted into breast milk.
  • Because the effects of leuprolide on a nursing infant are unknown, do not breast-feed.
  • Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.

Missed Dose
  • It is very important you do not miss any doses.
  • However, if you do miss a dose, contact your doctor promptly to establish a new schedule.

Drug Interactions
  • Tell your doctor of all over-the-counter and prescription medication you may use including: corticosteroids (e.g., prednisone), phenytoin.
  • Certain lab tests may be affected by Lupron Depot-Ped.
  • Inform all your healthcare providers you use Lupron Depot-Ped.
  • Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.

For the first two weeks or so, I felt more tired than usual. I had dizzy spells after the first shot, but none with the second. Overall, the side effects were not severe.
