Leuprolide has various uses, among them are: treatment for prostate cancer, early puberty in children and for problems of the uterus in women.
Storage
- Store vial and ampule of diluent at room temperature below 77 degrees F (25 degrees C).
- After mixing, discard any unused solution.
- Do not freeze.
Overdose
- If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately.

How To Use
- Lupron Depot is injected into a muscle (I.M.) and must be used under close medical supervision.
- This long acting form of leuprolide is called a depot.
- It is slowly released into the bloodstream and is given at various intervals.
- The dosing frequency depends on which product was prescribed by your doctor.
- If you are directed to inject Lupron Depot yourself, make sure you know exactly how to use this and how often.
- Consult your doctor or pharmacist if you are uncertain or have any questions.
- Do not stop using Lupron Depot without your doctor s permission.
Side Effects
- Lupron Depot may cause nausea, vomiting, hot flashes, night sweats; bone, joint or muscle pain; swelling of hands, feet or ankles; headache; vaginal dryness, inflammation or discharge; reduced sexual desire, mental/mood changes, dizziness, drowsiness, weight gain, inflamed gums, trouble swallowing, persistent pain at injection site, acne or difficulty urinating.
- Notify your doctor promptly if these symptoms persist or worsen.
- Notify your doctor promptly if you develop any of the following symptoms: rapid heartbeat, chest pain, fever, unusual weakness, testicular or prostate pain (men), vaginal bleeding (women).
- Tell your doctor immediately if any of these highly unlikely but very serious side effects occur: severe headache, vision changes, severe drowsiness, unusual or one-sided weakness.
- In the unlikely event you have an allergic reaction to Lupron Depot, seek immediate medical attention.
- Symptoms of an allergic reaction include: rash, itching, swelling, dizziness, breathing trouble.
- If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
Precautions
- Tell your doctor your medical history, especially of: urinary problems, alcohol or smoking dependence, bone diseases, cancer/lesions of the spine, abnormal vaginal bleeding, any allergies you may have.
- Limit alcohol intake, as it may intensify drug side effects.
- Caution is advised when performing tasks requiring alertness (e.g., driving), as Lupron Depot may cause dizziness or drowsiness.
- Leuprolide should not be used during pregnancy.
- If you become pregnant or think you may be pregnant, inform your doctor immediately.
- Discuss birth control methods with your doctor.
- It is not known if leuprolide is excreted into breast milk.
- Because the effects of leuprolide on a nursing infant are unknown, do not breast-feed.
- Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.
Missed Dose
- It is very important you do not miss any doses.
- However, if you do miss a dose, contact your doctor promptly to establish a new schedule.
Drug Interactions
- Tell your doctor of all over-the-counter and prescription medication you may use including: corticosteroids (e.g., prednisone), phenytoin.
- Certain lab tests may be affected by Lupron Depot.
- Inform all your healthcare providers you use Lupron Depot.
- Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.

Side Effects
Just let me say OH MY GOSH. I had previously taken Lupron when I was 25 for treatment of Endo after having surgery. This go around, my Gyno started me out with a 3 month injection! By the time I had to go back for my next 3 month injection, I thought that I needed to be in a mental hospital. I would start to cry and could not stop! The mood swings were horrible! I was mad at the world, and nothing could make me happy! All I wanted to do was sleep, because I felt so exhausted. I just hurt everywhere. I felt sorry for my children and my poor husband, I think that I could have killed him several times. The night sweats were awful, and I had to put fans everywhere! The people that work with me in a small law office started wearing jackets and keeping heaters in their office! I didn't gain any weight, I think that I sweated so much it helped. I will NEVER do it again! I'd rather have surgery. Needless to say, I did not take the 2nd injection, and my Gyno actually told me I needed to see a t

I have not had my first period after coming off the Lupron, I'm waiting to see how that goes. I have also made an appt. with another Gyno, in another city to discuss other options!
To anyone considering taking this, make sure that your docter will give you something for depression! Mine wouldn't, and this drug is dangerous!

Side Effects
weight gain,total insomnia,fatigue,upset stomach,hot flashes,
chills,mood swings,irritability,unsteady on feet,short term memory loss,jumpy, & the "big one" muscle aches all over body
weakness in legs.Hard to even walk some days. Of course sex-now non existent also. High chlosterol & blood pressure also. I had none of these problems , except insomnia before Lupron.The muscle aches & leg weakness has only occured after 8 month shot.

I hate this stuff...gleason 8, T1C,5.2 PSA. If not for wife & kids would stop immediately. Quality of life is "non existent".
1 year to go on 4 month shots.I still may quit Lupron after next shot or before it. PSA is .03 after 43 days IMRT Radiation & 8 mos Lupron.

Side Effects
This is my 3rd posting Havent had a shot for a year still have various side effects some memory loss and foggyness, lost some of the 20 lbs gained, difficulty&frequent urinating, mostly during morning&night during day better, I pray to Jesus daily in whom I have found stregnth and wouldn't have overcome any of this without He has been my depression&anxiety medication my stregnth my hope & I wholeheartedly beleve His stregnth is being made in all my weaknesses if its His will, I will make a complete recovery in due time I have depended upon God and will continue to do so regardless the outcome which I am optimisic about

Everyone is different, some people have an easy time on this shot with few side effects some people have a tough time on it If your side effects are that bad I suggest you stop taking it, if you continue to rough it out as I did my advice is to develop a relationship with God Watch Joyce Meyers Enjoying Everyday Life daily to find support, hope, encouragemet, strenth, to develop the faith to overcome these obstacles She has a very encouraging message on God in whom you will find the moral support you need God is the medicine the doctors leave out With Him I have found the motivation to keep going when it felt all was lost I found joy, happiness, patience, balance, hope, my faith is stronger my depression overcame my anxiety dissapating He is my best friend and the one we all truly need regardless of any illness or problems this life brings I couldnt be here without Him
