Idarubicin Hcl is an anticancer drug used in combination with other medications for the treatment of leukemia.
Storage
- Reconstituted solutions are stable for 7 days in the refrigerator or 3 days at room temperature.
- Discard medication properly after the expiration date.
Overdose
- If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately.
- Symptoms of overdose may include an irregular heartbeat, severe nausea, vomiting, or stomach pain, persistent sore throat or fever, easy bleeding or bruising, chills, unusual fatigue.

How To Use
- Idarubicin Hcl is given by injection into a vein over 10 to 15 minutes by a health care professional.
- Continue using Idarubicin Hcl for the full time prescribed.
- Stopping therapy too soon may result in ineffective treatment.
Side Effects
- Idarubicin Hcl may cause nausea, vomiting, diarrhea or headache.
- If these symptoms continue or become bothersome, inform your doctor.
- You may experience redness, irritation or pain at the injection site.
- Inform your doctor of this.
- Idarubicin Hcl may cause temporary hair loss (alopecia).
- When the medication is stopped, hair growth will return.
- Notify your doctor if you develop: severe stomach pain, skin rash, chest pain, unusual bleeding or bruising, fever, chills, flu-like symptoms, breathing trouble, tingling of the hands or feet, mouth sores.
- If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
Precautions
- Tell your doctor if you have: liver problems, kidney disease, heart disease, blood disorders, any allergies.
- Caution is advised when using this medicaton in the elderly because they may be more sensitive to the effects of Idarubicin Hcl, especially the effects on the heart.
- Idarubicin is not recommended for use during pregnancy.
- Consult your doctor before using Idarubicin Hcl.
- It is not known if Idarubicin Hcl passes into breast milk.
- Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.
Missed Dose
- It is important to receive each dose at the scheduled time.
- If you miss a dose, contact your doctor who will help establish a new dosing schedule.
- Do not double-up the dose to catch up.
Drug Interactions
- Tell your doctor of any over-the-counter or prescription medication you may take.
- Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.
