Uses
Guaifenesin is an expectorant which helps to loosen mucus. Potassium guaiacolsulfonate is also an expectorant. This combination medication is used to treat a cough associated with the common cold, asthma, and other respiratory illnesses (e.g., sinusitis, pharyngitis, bronchitis).
Storage
- Store at room temperature between 68 and 77 degrees F (20-25 degrees C) away from light and moisture.
- Do not store in the bathroom.
- Keep all medicines away from children and pets.
Overdose
- If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately.

How To Use
- Take Humibid La twice daily (12 hours apart); or as directed by your doctor.
- It is best to swallow the medicine whole.
- Do not crush or chew Humibid La.
- Take Humibid La with a full glass of water.
- Water will also help break-up the mucous and clear congestion.
- Drink plenty of fluids while taking Humibid La, unless your doctor instructs you otherwise.
- Do not take Humibid La for a chronic, persistent cough such as occurs with smoking unless directed by your doctor.
- If the cough last for more than one week, tends to recur, or is accompanied by a fever, headache or rash, consult your doctor.
Side Effects
- Nausea, vomiting, stomach upset, dizziness, headache, rash, or hives may occur.
- If any of these effects persist or worsen, notify your doctor or pharmacist promptly.
- Tell your doctor immediately if any of these unlikely but serious side effects occur: painful urination (with fever and chills), blood in urine.
- If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
Precautions
- Before using Humibid La, tell your doctor or pharmacist your medical history, especially of: breathing problems (such as emphysema/chronic bronchitis/asthma), smoking, any allergies.
- Humibid La may make you dizzy; use caution engaging in activities requiring alertness such as driving or using machinery.
- Limit alcoholic beverages.
- Humibid La should be used only when clearly needed during pregnancy.
- Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor.
- It is not known whether Humibid La passes into breast milk.
- Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.
Missed Dose
- If you miss a dose, use it as soon as you remember.
- If it is near the time of the next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule.
- Do not double the dose to catch up.
Drug Interactions
- Before using Humibid La, tell your doctor or pharmacist of all prescription and nonprescription/herbal products you may use, especially of: other cough-and-cold medicines.
- This product can affect the results of certain lab tests.
- Make sure laboratory personnel and your doctors know you use Humibid La.
- Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.
