ethambutol Hcl Myambutol, Ethambutol Hydrochloride Uses Ethambutol is used to treat tuberculosis, often in combination with other medications. Storage Store at room temperature between 59 and 86 degrees F (between 15 and 30 degrees C) away from moisture and sunlight. Do not store in the bathroom. Overdose If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Take as directed. Do not stop taking Ethambutol Hcl without your doctor s approval. Stopping therapy too early may result in ineffective treatment. Side Effects May cause stomach upset, dizziness, fatigue, or headache. These effects should disappear as your body adjusts to the medication. Notify your doctor if you experience: vision changes, skin rash, numbness or tingling of the hands or feet. Ethambutol Hcl may cause blurred vision or make it difficult to see red or green colors. Report any vision changes to your doctor. Eye tests may be done. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist. Precautions Tell your doctor if you have a history of: gout, kidney disease, vision problems such as cataracts. Before taking Ethambutol Hcl, tell your doctor if you are pregnant. Ethambutol is excreted into breast milk. Though, to date, no problems have been noted in nursing infants, consult your doctor before you breast-feed. Missed Dose If you miss a dose, take as soon as remembered; do not take if it is almost time for the next dose, instead, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule. Do not "double-up the dose to catch up. Drug Interactions Tell your doctor of all prescription and nonprescription drugs you may use, especially: antacids. Antacids may decrease the absorption of Ethambutol Hcl. Therefore, space antacid doses several hours apart from ethambutol doses. Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.
