How To Use
  • Take Crestor by mouth usually once daily with or without food, or as directed by your doctor.
  • Crestor is best taken in the evening.
  • Dosage is based on your medical condition, response to therapy, and use of certain interacting medicines.
  • Many of Crestors listed in the Drug Interactions section may increase the chances of muscle injury when used with rosuvastatin.
  • Consult your doctor or pharmacist for more details.
  • Antacids can decrease the absorption of Crestor when taken at the same time.
  • If you are taking an antacid, take it at least 2 hours after rosuvastatin.
  • If you also take certain other drugs to lower your cholesterol (bile acid-binding resins such as cholestyramine or colestipol), take rosuvastatin at least 1 hour before or at least 2 hours after these medications.
  • Use Crestor regularly in order to get the most benefit from it.
  • Remember to take it at the same time each day.
  • It may take 2 to 4 weeks before the full benefit of Crestor takes effect.
  • It is important to continue taking Crestor even if you feel well.
  • Most people with high cholesterol or triglycerides do not feel sick.

Side Effects
  • Crestor may infrequently cause muscle damage (which can rarely lead to a very serious condition called rhabdomyolysis).
  • Stop taking Crestor and tell your doctor immediately if you develop: muscle pain/tenderness/weakness (especially with fever or unusual tiredness).
  • Tell your doctor immediately if any of these highly unlikely but very serious side effects occur: yellowing eyes and skin, dark urine, stomach/abdominal pain, severe nausea, fatigue, change in the amount of urine.
  • A serious allergic reaction to Crestor is unlikely, but seek immediate medical attention if it occurs.
  • Symptoms of a serious allergic reaction include: rash, itching, swelling, dizziness, trouble breathing.
  • If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.

Precautions
  • Crestor should not be used if you have certain medical conditions.
  • Before using Crestor, consult your doctor or pharmacist if you have: active liver disease.
  • Before using Crestor, tell your doctor or pharmacist your medical history, especially of: heart disease, history of liver disease, kidney disease, underactive thyroid (hypothyroidism), alcohol use, any allergies (especially to other "statins ).
  • The rare development of severe muscle damage (see Side Effects) can infrequently lead to serious kidney problems.
  • Crestor is usually temporarily stopped if you have any condition which can increase your risk of developing kidney problems.
  • Before stopping your medication, notify your doctor immediately if you have any of the following conditions: major surgery, trauma, serious illness (e.g., sepsis, severe metabolic/endocrine/electrolyte disorders), very low blood pressure, uncontrolled seizures.
  • Limit alcoholic beverages.
  • Daily use of alcohol may increase your chance for serious side effects.
  • Caution is advised when using Crestor in the elderly because they may be more sensitive to the effects of Crestor, especially muscle injury.
  • Crestor must not be used during pregnancy.
  • If you become pregnant or think you may be pregnant, inform your doctor immediately.
  • It is recommended that women of child-bearing age use reliable form(s) of birth control (contraception) while taking Crestor since rosuvastatin may cause fetal harm.
  • Consult your doctor for more details.
  • It is not known if Crestor passes into breast milk.
  • Because of the potential risk of undesirable effects on a nursing infant, breast-feeding is not recommended while using Crestor.
  • Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.

Missed Dose
  • If you miss a dose, use it as soon as you remember.
  • If it is near the time of the next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule.
  • Do not double the dose to catch up.

Drug Interactions
  • See also the How to Use section.
  • Use caution if the following drugs are combined with rosuvastatin because serious side effects such as muscle injury (myopathy) infrequently could occur: fibrates (e.g., gemfibrozil, fenofibrate), high-dose niacin (1 gram or more per day), cyclosporine.
  • Before using Crestor, tell your doctor or pharmacist of all prescription and nonprescription/herbal products you may use, especially of: antacids, birth control pills, cholestyramine, colestipol, warfarin.
  • Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.

Side Effects
Foot pain! Seems to move around from toes to ankle to top off the foot to heel. Not sure if it's the Crestor but seems like many others have similar symptoms. Have not checked cholestoral levels yet to see if it's down but even if it is, I'd rather be able to walk!

Side Effects
Memory loss after being on med for a year. Couldn't think of names, words, everyday conversation became issue. Didn't realize Crestor might effect memory. Was on Crestor 5mg for 1+ year. Had other side effects that came about same time, pain in back, right side, lower legs. Doctor advised to stop taking. It's been 2 months, memory is back to normal. Took about 6 weeks before memory recovered.

Additional Thoughts
Crestor did lower my cholesterol to normal levels. Previously 265 or higher. But no where in literature I'd found did it mention problems with memory (until I checked askapatient).

Additional Thoughts
After taking Crestor a few weeks I experienced extreme pain and weakness in my right leg; painful to climb stairs and painful to walk while playing golf. After reading that Crestor can cause muscle damage I decided to stop taking it. In just a few days the pain was gone. At the next doctor's appt I told him what I had experienced and that I was not taking the drug. He was skeptical that the drug caused the pain because it was only in one leg. He suggested trying Lipitor and I reluctantly agreed. After leaving his office with samples I took one pill. By that night I was in extreme pain again so I have not had another. I do think there was permanent damage in that leg. It is weaker and aches after walking for long periods. I think there are a lot of people experiencing the same symptoms and do not realize it is the statins they are taking. The doctors don't seem to want to admit that these drugs are causing these side effects.
