Uses
Cyanocobalamin (vitamin B12) is important to the body for growth, cell production, and blood and nerve function. It is given to treat or prevent low levels of B12 in the body.
Storage
- Store B-12 at room temperature between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 to 30 degrees C) away from heat and light.
- Do not store in the bathroom.
- Keep this and all medications out of the reach of children.
Overdose
- If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately.

How To Use
- Take B-12 by mouth exactly as prescribed, usually once a day.
Side Effects
- B-12 is generally well tolerated.
- Notify your doctor if you develop: diarrhea, itching or a skin rash.
- If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
Precautions
- Tell your doctor if you have: other illnesses, any allergies.
- B-12 should be used only as directed during pregnancy or while breast-feeding.
- Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor.
Missed Dose
- Try to take each dose at the scheduled time.
- If you miss a dose, take it as soon as remembered; do not take it if it is near the time for the next dose, instead, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule.
- Do not double-up the dose to catch up.
Drug Interactions
- Tell your doctor of any over-the-counter or prescription medication you may take, including: vitamins, folic acid.
- Limit intake of alcoholic beverages which can interfere with the absorption of B-12.
- Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.
