Notes

Side Effects

- Dizziness and drowsiness are common especially during the first few weeks of therapy Other side effects may include headache, indigestion, nasal congestion, decreased sexual ability, blurred vision, or sleep disturbances.

- If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
Precautions

- Limit or avoid alcohol because it may add to the dizziness and/or drowsiness effects of this medication.
- Elderly patients may be more sensitive to the effects of this medication.

- This medication should be used only when clearly needed during pregnancy.
- Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor.
- It is not known if guanabenz is excreted into breast milk.
- Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.
Missed Dose
- If you miss a dose, take as soon as remembered; do not take if it is almost time for the next dose, instead, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule.
- Do not double the dose to catch up.
Drug Interactions
- Tell your doctor of all medicines you may use (both prescription and nonprescription), especially of beta-blockers (e.g., propranolol, atenolol), of drugs that may make you drowsy such as narcotic analgesics, tranquilizers, anti-anxiety medicines or sleep medicines; and of other blood pressure medicines.
- Many medications for coughs and colds contain ingredients which may increase blood pressure.
- Consult your doctor or pharmacist if you are uncertain it is safe to take your nonprescription drugs.
