How To Use
- Take with food or milk if stomach upset occurs.
- Shake the liquid form of this medication well before measuring each dose.
- Take this medication as prescribed.
- Do not stop taking this drug suddenly without consulting your doctor as seizures may occur.
- It is important to take all doses on time to keep the level of medication in your blood constant.
- Take doses at evenly spaced intervals throughout the day and night.
- While taking this medication, lab tests may be done, especially in the first few months, to check if the drug is working properly.
Side Effects
- May cause drowsiness, stomach upset, loss of apetite, headache, irritability or fatigue.
- If any of these effects persist or worsen, contact your doctor promptly.
- Notify your doctor if seizures occur or if you develop blurred vision, fever, sore throat, unusual bleeding or bruising, clumsiness or skin rash while taking this medication.
- This medication may increase sensitivity to sunlight.
- An allergic reaction to this drug is unlikely, but seek immediate medical attention if it occurs.
- Symptoms of an allergic reaction include rash, itching, swelling, dizziness, trouble breathing or stomach pain.
- If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
Precautions
- Tell your doctor your medical history, especially of kidney, liver or blood disorders, eye problems and of any allergies you may have.
- This drug may make you dizzy or drowsy; use caution engaging in activities requiring alertness such as driving or using machinery.
- Limit alcohol intake because it can increase the dizziness or drowsiness effects of this medication.
- Because this medication may increase sensitivity to sunlight, avoid prolonged sun exposure.
- Use sunscreen and wear protective clothing when outdoors.
- Trimethadione is not recommended for use during pregnancy.
- Consult your doctor for details.
- It is not known if this medication passes into breast milk.
- Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.
Missed Dose
- If you miss a dose, take as soon as remembered; do not take if it is almost time for the next dose, instead, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule.
- Do not "double-up" the dose to catch up.
Drug Interactions
- Tell your doctor of all prescription and nonprescription medications you may use, especially of other drugs that cause drowsiness such as medicine for sleep; sedatives, tranquilizers, anti-anxiety drugs, narcotic pain relievers (e.g., codeine), psychiatric medicines, other anti-seizure medications, muscle relaxants and antihistamines that cause drowsiness (e.g., diphenhydramine).
