Uses
This medication is used to treat fungal skin infections. This product contains nystatin, an anti-fungal drug that works by stopping the growth of fungus. It also contains triamcinolone, an anti-inflammatory corticosteroid that works by reducing swelling, itching, and redness.This medication treats only fungal skin infections. Notes
- Do not share this medication with others.This medication has been prescribed for your current condition only.
- Do not use it later for another infection unless told to do so by your doctor.
- A different medication may be necessary in that case.If you use this drug for an extended time, laboratory and/or medical tests (e.g., adrenal gland function tests, morning cortisol blood test) may be performed periodically to check for side effects.
- Consult your doctor for more details.
Storage
- Store at room temperature between 59-86 degrees F (15-30 degrees C) away from moisture.
- Do not store in the bathroom.
- Do not freeze.
- Keep all medicines away from children and pets.
How To Use
- This medication is for use on the skin, only as directed.
- Wash and dry your hands before using.
- Clean and dry the affected area.
- Then apply a small amount of medication in a thin layer on the skin and rub in gently, usually twice a day (in the morning and evening) or as directed by your doctor.
- Wash your hands after use, unless you are using this product to treat the hands.Do not bandage, cover, or wrap the treated area unless you are instructed to do so by your doctor.
- If you are using this medication on a child's diaper area, do not use tight-fitting diapers or plastic pants.If you are directed to use this medication in the groin area, apply it sparingly and wear loose-fitting clothes.Avoid getting this medication in your eyes, nose, or mouth.
- If this occurs, wipe off the medication and rinse thoroughly with water.Use this medication only for the condition for which it was prescribed.
- Do not use large amounts of this medication or apply this more often or for a longer period than directed.
- Use this medication regularly in order to get the most benefit from it.
- To help you remember, use it at the same times each day.Continue to use this medication for the full time prescribed, even if symptoms improve after a few days.
- Stopping the medication too early may allow the fungus to continue to grow, which may result in a return of the infection.Tell your doctor if your condition does not improve after 1 week or if it worsens.
Side Effects
- Skin irritation, burning, or dryness may occur.
- These effects should lessen in a few days as your body adjusts to the medication.
- If any of these effects persist or worsen, tell your doctor or pharmacist promptly.Remember that your doctor has prescribed this medication because he or she has judged that the benefit to you is greater than the risk of side effects.
- Many people using this medication do not have serious side effects.Tell your doctor immediately if any of these unlikely but serious side effects occur: stretch marks, skin thinning/discoloration, acne, increased/unwanted hair growth, "hair bumps" (folliculitis).A very serious allergic reaction to this drug is rare.
- However, seek immediate medical attention if you notice any symptoms of a serious allergic reaction, including: rash, itching, swelling, severe dizziness, trouble breathing.If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
Precautions
- Before using nystatin with triamcinolone, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to it; or to other corticosteroids (e.g., hydrocortisone, prednisone); or if you have any other allergies.Before using this medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist your medical history.Though very unlikely, it is possible this medication will be absorbed into your bloodstream.
- This may have undesirable effects that may require additional corticosteroid treatment.
- Children and those using this medication for an extended time over most of the skin may be at higher risk, especially if they also have serious medical problems such as severe infections, injuries, or surgeries.
- This precaution applies for up to 1 year after stopping use of this drug.
- Tell your doctor immediately if any of the following side effects occur: vision problems, persistent headache, increased thirst/urination, unusual weakness, sudden weight loss, dizziness.
- Consult your doctor or pharmacist for more details, and tell them that you use (or have used) this medication.Caution is advised when using this drug in children because they may be more sensitive to the effects of too much steroid medication.
- Though it is unlikely to occur with corticosteroids applied to the skin, this medication may affect growth in infants and children if used for prolonged periods.
- Monitor your child's height and rate of growth periodically.During pregnancy, this medication should be used only when clearly needed.
- Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor.It is not known whether this drug passes into breast milk.
- Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.
Missed Dose
- If you miss a dose, use it as soon as you remember.
- If it is near the time of the next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule.
- Do not double the dose to catch up.
Drug Interactions
- Your doctor or pharmacist may already be aware of any possible drug interactions and may be monitoring you for them.
- Do not start, stop, or change the dosage of any medicine before checking with your doctor or pharmacist first.Before using this medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist of all prescription and nonprescription/herbal products you may use, especially of: corticosteroids taken by mouth (e.g., prednisone).
