Uses
Amino acids are used by the body as a source of protein and nitrogen. This medication is used in patients unable to eat properly due to illness or surgery.
Notes
  • Make sure needles, tubing, and supplies are stored safely and disposed of properly.
  • Check all expiration dates and use all bags or bottles in proper sequence.
  • Your nutritional status will be closely monitored.
  • Based on this your formula may need to be changed to accommodate your nutritional needs.

Storage
  • Store unopened containers at room temperature between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 to 30 degrees C) away from heat and light.
  • Mixed amino acids should be refrigerated and used within 24 hours.
  • Discard any unused medication after the expiration date.

How To Use
  • HOW TO USE THIS MEDICATION: Allow all bags or bottles to warm to room temperature before using.
  • This nutritional supplement is administered intravenously as directed by a certified health care professional.
  • It is infused over a predetermined time period stated on the bottle.

Side Effects
  • The most common side effect of intravenous nutrition is infection or irritation of the vein at the administration site (catheter).
  • This should be reported to your doctor.
  • Notify your doctor immediately if you have rapid breathing or shortness of breath, sudden weight gain, fever, chills, yellowing of the skin or eyes, darkening of the urine, nausea, flushing of the skin or weakness.
  • If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.

Precautions
  • Tell your doctor your medical history, including any kidney or liver disease, digestive disorders, bleeding problems or any allergies.
  • This product should be used only when clearly needed during pregnancy.
  • Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor.
  • This product may be excreted into breast milk.
  • Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.

Missed Dose
  • If you miss a dose, take it as soon as remembered; do not take it if it is near the time for the next dose, instead, skip the missed dose and contact your doctor to establish a new dosing schedule.
  • Do not "double-up" the dose to catch up.

  • Tell your doctor of any over-the-counter or prescription medication you may take.
