Uses
Opium is a narcotic used to treat diarrhea or pain.
Storage
- Store at room temperature between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 and 30 degrees C) away from heat, light and moisture.
- Do not store in the bathroom.
- Keep this and all medications out of the reach of children.
Overdose
- If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately.
- Symptoms of overdose may include trouble breathing, severe drowsiness, unconsciousness, severe dizziness; cold or clammy skin; or irregular heartbeat.
How To Use
- Take Opium by mouth as directed.
- May take with food or meals if stomach upset occurs.
- Carefully measure each dose using the dropper provided.
- The drops may be mixed with soft food, water or juice.
- Use Opium exactly as directed by your doctor.
- Do not increase your dose, use it more frequently or use it for a longer period of time than prescribed because Opium can be habit- forming.
- Also, if used for an extended period, do not suddenly stop using Opium without your doctor s approval.
- Over time, Opium may not work as well.
- Consult your doctor if Opium stops working well.
Side Effects
- Lightheadedness, dizziness, drowsiness, nausea, vomiting, blurred vision may occur.
- If any of these effects continue or become bothersome, inform your doctor.
- Notify your doctor if you develop: tremor, mood/mental changes, rapid heart rate.
- In the unlikely event you have an allergic reaction to Opium, seek immediate medical attention.
- Symptoms of an allergic reaction include: rash, itching, swelling, dizziness, trouble breathing.
- If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
Precautions
- Tell your doctor if you have: liver disease, heart disease, gallbladder problems, intestinal diseases, an enlarged prostate, asthma or other breathing problems, seizures, drug dependency, drug allergies.
- Use caution driving or operating machinery or doing activities requiring alertness.
- Rise slowly from a lying or sitting position to lessen the occurrence of dizziness, lightheadedness or fainting.
- Opium should be used only if clearly needed during pregnancy.
- Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor.
- It is not known if Opium is excreted into breast milk.
- Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.
Missed Dose
- If you miss a dose, take it as soon as remembered; do not take it if it is near the time for the next dose, instead, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule.
- Do not double-up the dose to catch up.
Drug Interactions
- Tell your doctor of any over-the-counter or prescription medication you may use, including: other narcotic pain relievers, sedatives, cimetidine.
- Avoid using alcohol while taking Opium as dizziness and drowsiness effects will increase.
- Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.
