This medication is an antacid used to relieve upset stomach, heartburn or gas caused by stomach acid.
Notes
- There are various forms of this medication available.
- The chewable tablets offer convenience but the liquid form is faster acting.
- Talk to your health care provider or pharmacist about the best product for you.
- If your condition does not improve or worsens, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
- If your stools become dark in color or you vomit what looks like coffee grounds, contact your doctor as these may be signs of stomach bleeding
Storage
- Store at room temperature between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 to 30 degrees C) away from light and moisture.
- Do not store in the bathroom.

How To Use
- Take this by mouth as directed.
- Chew thoroughly and swallow.
- Do not swallow the tablets whole.
- Follow each dose with a full glass of water.
- Do not increase the dose or take this more often than prescribed.
- If you feel your dose is not effective, consult your doctor.
Side Effects
- This medication is generally well tolerated.
- Notify your doctor if you develop loss of appetite, vomiting, dizziness or headache.
- Constipation and stomach cramps may occur.
- Notify your doctor if they continue or become severe.
- If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
Precautions
- Before taking this, tell your doctor if you have any kidney disease or any allergies.
- Avoid taking more doses than recommended.
- This medication is considered safe for use during pregnancy or breast-feeding when used as directed.
Missed Dose
- If you miss a dose, take it as soon as remembered do not take it if it is near the time for the next dose, instead, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule.
- Do not "double-up" the dose to catch up.
Drug Interactions
- Tell your doctor of any nonprescription or prescription medication you may take including certain antibiotics (e.g., tetracyclines, quinolones), demeclocycline, methacycline, verapamil (a calcium channel blocker), quinidine, sodium polystyrene sulfonate (Kayexalate) or iron-containing products.
