Rogaine

Uses
This medication is used topically to promote hair growth in the treatment of male pattern baldness.
Notes
  • At first, hair growth will be soft, colorless and barely visible.
  • With further treatment new hair should be the color and thickness of other scalp hair.
  • Evidence of hair growth may take up to 4 months or longer.
  • If this does not occur, contact your doctor about continuing therapy.
  • If treatment is stopped, new hair will be shed within a few months.
  • This drug is to be used topically only.
  • Accidental ingestion can produce significant side effects.
  • Keep this and all medications out of the reach of children.
  • Do not allow anyone else to use your minoxidil.

Storage
  • Store at room temperature away from sunlight.
  • Avoid freezing.

How To Use
  • HOW TO USE THIS MEDICATION: Clean and dry the scalp area before applying the medication.
  • To apply, gently rub approximately 20 drops of the medication to the desired area twice a day.
  • Wash hands thoroughly after application.
  • Larger or more frequent doses will not speed up or increase chance of hair growth, but will increase the chance of side effects.
  • Do not use this medication with any other topical scalp medications.

Side Effects
  • This medication may cause burning, stinging or redness when first applied to the skin.
  • This should disappear in a few days as your body adjusts to the medication.
  • If these effects persist or worsen, inform your doctor.
  • Avoid contact with the eyes or other non-scalp areas.
  • If contact does occur, bathe the area with plenty of cool tap water.
  • If excessive amounts of this medication are absorbed through the skin, headache, nausea, vomiting, dizziness, change in heart rate or blood pressure, chest pain, swelling of hands or feet, or fatigue may occur.
  • Look for these effects and inform your doctor if they occur.
  • If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.

Precautions
  • Do not apply minoxidil to a sunburned or irritated scalp.
  • Using the medication more often, applying more of it than as directed, or applying it to an irritated or sunburned scalp can cause the drug to be absorbed into your body and result in serious side effects.
  • Women who are pregnant or breast-feeding should inform their doctors.
  • Tell your doctor if you have heart, kidney, liver, or scalp disease.

Missed Dose
  • If you miss a dose, use it as soon as remembered; do not use if it is almost time for the next dose, instead, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule.
  • Do not "double-up" the dose to catch up.

Drug Interactions
  • Before using minoxidil, tell your doctor of any over-the-counter or prescription medications you are taking, especially guanethidine (Ismelin) and other medication for high blood pressure.
  • Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.

Reason: Balding Date: 8 January 2007
Side Effects
BIG TIME loss of sex drive and weak erections. Went from love-making 3x a week (and always wanting more) to 3x a month and not much desire for more. Dandruff. Heart pounding or flutters at night - and sometimes a painful "jolt". Scary. If symptoms don't stop, I'll probably quit taking it. Just not worth it.

Reason: Hair loss Date: 13 June 2007
Side Effects
Disappearing sex drive; weak or no erections (getting progressively worse with use); small pimples near site of application; sensitive, itchy scalp; lots of dandruff (never had it before); sleeplessness; anxiety.

Additional Thoughts
I have to admit that the product did work - my hair looked "fuller" after I started it. But for me, there was a steep price to pay... the sexual side-effects were just not worth it. And the worse thing is that I didn't make the connection after almost 4 years of use... curious how a few comments have found their way into the patient-review websites, yet there is no mention of this kind of side-effect on the pharmaceutical or quasi-pharma websites.

Side Effects
loss of sex drive..poor erections...irregular heart beat, dizziness and heart palpitations/fullters, insomnia, headaches on a regular basis.

Additional Thoughts
This is a serious medication and should not be taken without medical supervision. For what its worth i would not recommed this medication since the risks out weigh the benefits. my normal life......

My scalp has practically shed in chunks but my hair line is coming back like a Chia pet after 1 week's use. If the itching and dandruff subside after a few weeks I'll continue using the product.
