Uses
Treats drug overdose. Reverses the effects of certain kinds of drugs.
How To Use
- APPEARANCE: Injectable.
A nurse or other trained health professional will give you this medicine.
This medicine is given through a needle placed in one of your veins, or as a shot into one of your muscles.
Side Effects
- Call your doctor right away if you notice any of these side effects:
Allergic reaction: Itching or hives, swelling in your face or hands, swelling or tingling in your mouth or throat, chest tightness, trouble breathing.
Increased watering in your mouth, severe nausea, or vomiting.
Increase in how much or how often you urinate, or severe diarrhea.
Seizures.
Slow heartbeat, dizziness, or fainting.
Precautions
- You should not receive this medicine if you have had an allergic reaction to physostigmine salicylate, sulfite, or benzyl alcohol.
- You should not receive this medicine if you have asthma, diabetes, heart disease, gangrene, or a blockage of the urinary or digestive tract.
- You should not receive this medicine if you are also receiving atropine, decamethonium, or succinylcholine.
Drug Interactions
- Make sure your doctor knows if you are pregnant or breast feeding, or if you have asthma.
