Penetrex Uses This medication is an antibiotic used to treat infections of the urinary tract as well as for gonorrhea. Notes This medication has been prescribed for your current condition only. Do not use it later for another infection or share it with someone else. A different medication may be needed in those cases. Storage Store at room temperature between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 to 30 degrees C) away from heat and light. Do not store in the bathroom. Photos How To Use Take this medication by mouth at least one hour before or two hours after meals. For best results, take each dose at evenly spaced intervals around the clock. This will ensure a constant level of medication in your blood. Take this medication for the full time prescribed. Stopping therapy too soon may result in a reinfection. Drink plenty of fluids while taking this medication. If you take any of the following items, take them 8 hours before or 2 hours after taking this drug: zinc, iron, sucralfate, dairy products or antacids that contain magnesium, calcium or aluminum. Side Effects Indigestion, loss of appetite, unusual taste in the mouth, nausea, headache, dizziness, lightheadedness, increased sensitivity to the sun, anxiety, trouble sleeping, nervousness or any mental/mood changes may occur. If these effects persist or worsen, inform your doctor. To avoid dizziness or lightheadedness when rising from a seated or lying position, get up slowly. Report new pain or tenderness (tendonitis) in arms or legs promptly. Notify your doctor if you develop stomach cramps, bloody stools, vaginal yeast infection, ringing in the ears or seizures. This medication may infrequently cause drowsiness. In the unlikely event you have an allergic reaction to this drug, seek medical attention immediately. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include rash, itching, swelling, fever or trouble breathing. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist. Precautions Before taking this medication, tell your doctor your medical history especially of epilepsy, kidney disease, tendon problems, nervous system disorders, liver disease, blood vessel problems and of any drug allergies. Use caution driving or performing tasks requiring alertness if this medication makes you dizzy or lightheaded. Limit alcohol intake. Because this medication may make you more sensitive to the sun, avoid prolonged sun exposure. Wear protective clothing and use a sunscreen when outdoors. This medication should be used only when clearly needed during pregnancy. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor. This drug is excreted into breast milk. You may have to stop nursing or stop using this drug. Consult you doctor before breast-feeding. Missed Dose If you miss a dose, take it as soon as remembered; do not take it if it is near the time for the next dose, instead, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule. Do not "double-up" the dose to catch up. Drug Interactions Tell your doctor of any over-the-counter or prescription medication you may take especially sucralfate, iron, zinc, digoxin, cyclosporine, theophylline, warfarin, other antibiotics, didanosine, bismuth (e.g., Pepto Bismol), NSAID (e.g., ibuprofen), cimetidine, ranitidine, dairy products or if you take antacids that contain calcium, aluminum or magnesium. Limit caffeine intake during therapy since this medication can increase the effects of caffeine. Be aware of caffeine in colas, chocolate and some pain medications. Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval. Share and Enjoy!
