Uses
This medication is used in men who do not make enough of a natural substance called testosterone. In males, testosterone is responsible for many normal functions, including growth and development of the genitals, muscles, and bones. It also helps cause normal sexual development (puberty) in children/teenagers. Methyltestosterone is similar to the natural testosterone produced by your body. It belongs to a class of drugs known as androgens. It works by affecting many body systems so that the body can develop and function normally.Methyltestosterone may also be used in certain adolescent boys to cause puberty in those with delayed puberty.It may also be used in certain women to treat advanced breast cancer.This drug may also be used to treat muscle wasting due to HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) infection or cancer.

It is against the law.Laboratory and/or medical tests (e.g., blood testosterone levels, red blood cell counts, liver function tests, blood cholesterol levels, blood pressure measurements) should be performed periodically to monitor your progress or check for side effects.

Storage

Store at room temperature at 77 degrees F (25 degrees C) away from light and moisture.
Brief storage between 59-86 degrees F (15-30 degrees C) is permitted.
Do not store in the bathroom.

How To Use

Take this medication by mouth with or without food, usually once daily for low testosterone levels or exactly as prescribed by your doctor.
Take with food if stomach upset occurs.Dosage is based on your medical condition, testosterone blood levels, and response to treatment.Use this medication regularly in order to get the most benefit from it.Do not suddenly stop using methyltestosterone if you have been using it regularly for an extended time or if it has been used in high doses.
In such cases, your body will no longer make its own testosterone, and withdrawal reactions (e.g., tiredness, weakness, depression) may occur if you suddenly stop this drug.
To prevent withdrawal reactions when stopping extended, regular treatment with this drug, gradually reduce the dosage as directed.
Consult your doctor or pharmacist for more details, and report any withdrawal reactions immediately.Abnormal drug-seeking behavior is possible with this medication, and it is frequently misused for its muscle-enhancing effects.
Do not increase your dose, take it more frequently, or take it for a longer time than prescribed.
Doing so may increase serious side effects (e.g., increased risk for heart disease/heart failure/stroke/liver disease, ruptured tendons/ligaments, improper bone development in adolescents).
Properly stop the medication when so directed.Tell your doctor if your condition persists or worsens after at least 1 month of treatment.

Side Effects

Nausea, vomiting, skin color changes, ankle swelling, increased sexual interest, increased frequency/duration of erections, oily skin, and acne may occur.
Less common side effects may include trouble sleeping, increased sweating, and headaches.
If any of these effects persist or worsen, tell your doctor or pharmacist promptly.Remember that your doctor has prescribed this medication because he or she has judged that the benefit to you is greater than the risk of side effects.
Many people using this medication do not have serious side effects when it is used at normal doses.Tell your doctor immediately if any of these unlikely but serious side effects occur: body/facial swelling, decreased sexual interest, body tingling, signs of serious liver disease (persistent abdominal pain/nausea, vomiting, yellowish skin/eyes, white stools, dark urine).If you are a male tell your doctor immediately if any of these unlikely but serious side effects occur: difficulty starting the flow of urine, mental/mood changes (e.g., anxiety, aggressiveness, increased anger), breast enlargement.If you are a woman, tell your doctor immediately if any of these unlikely but serious side effects occur: deepening of the voice, hoarseness, unusual facial hair growth, enlarged clitoris, irregular menstrual periods.Tell your doctor immediately if any of these rare but very serious side effects occur: signs of heart failure (e.g., decreased exercise ability, ankle/leg swelling, easily tired, shortness of breath while lying down).A very serious allergic reaction to this drug is rare.
However, seek immediate medical attention if you notice any symptoms of a serious allergic reaction, including: rash, itching, swelling, severe dizziness, trouble breathing.If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.

Precautions

Before using methyltestosterone, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to it; or to testosterone; or if you have any other allergies.This medication should not be used if you have certain medical conditions.
Before using this medicine, consult your doctor or pharmacist if you have: serious heart disease (e.g., angina, history of heart attack, heart failure), serious liver disease (e.g., chronic hepatitis B or C, cirrhosis), severe kidney disease, breast cancer in men, prostate cancer.Before using this medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist your medical history, especially of: enlarged prostate, high red blood cell count, high cholesterol, diabetes, high blood pressure.If you are a male you should tell your doctor if you have too many erections.
In the unlikely event you have a painful or prolonged erection (lasting more than 4 hours), stop using this drug and seek immediate medical attention, or permanent problems could occur.If you have diabetes, this product may decrease your blood sugar levels.
Check your blood sugar levels regularly as directed by your doctor.
Tell your doctor immediately if you have symptoms of low blood sugar, such as increased hunger, dizziness, or unusual sweating.
Your anti-diabetic medication or diet may need to be adjusted.Tell your doctor if you become bed-ridden (unable to walk) for a prolonged time while using this medication.
Your doctor may wish to monitor your blood calcium for high levels to prevent bone/kidney problems.Caution is advised when using this drug in male children because bone growth may be affected, causing shorter adult height.
Your child's doctor will monitor his growth and bone development during treatment.This medication must not be used during pregnancy.
It may harm an unborn baby.
Consult your doctor for more details and to discuss reliable forms of birth control.
It is recommended that women using this medication use 2 effective forms of birth control (e.g., condoms and birth control pills) while taking this medication.
Consult your doctor.It is not known whether this drug passes into breast milk.
Because of the possibility of severe side effects in your nursing infant, it is recommended to avoid breast-feeding while using this medication.

Missed Dose

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember.
If it is near the time of the next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule.
Do not double the dose to catch up.

Drug Interactions

Your doctor or pharmacist may already be aware of any possible drug interactions and may be monitoring you for them.
Do not start, stop, or change the dosage of any medicine before checking with your doctor or pharmacist first.Before using this medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist of all prescription and nonprescription/herbal products you may use, especially of: warfarin, oxyphenbutazone, cyclosporine.If you are currently using any of these medications listed above, tell your doctor or pharmacist before starting methyltestosterone.Use of methyltestosterone may affect certain laboratory tests (e.g., thyroid tests including total T4, rT3 uptake, rT4 uptake).
Make sure that all of your doctors and laboratory personnel know you are using this medication.
