Storage
- Store at room temperature between 59-86 degrees F (15-30 degrees C) away from light and moisture.
- Avoid high heat or freezing.
- Do not store in the bathroom.
- Keep all medicines away from children and pets.
Overdose
- Symptoms of overdose may include: stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea.
How To Use
- Take this medication by mouth, usually once or twice daily or as directed by your doctor.Take this medication regularly to get the most benefit from it.
- To help you remember, take it at the same time(s) each day.
Side Effects
- Constipation, diarrhea, or upset stomach may occur.
- These effects are usually temporary and may disappear as your body adjusts to this medication.
- If any of these effects persist or worsen, contact your doctor or pharmacist promptly.Remember that your doctor has prescribed this medication because he or she has judged that the benefit to you is greater than the risk of side effects.
- Many people using this medication do not have serious side effects.Tell your doctor immediately if any of these unlikely but serious side effects occur: easy bleeding/bruising.A very serious allergic reaction to this drug is rare.
- However, seek immediate medical attention if you notice any of the following symptoms of a serious allergic reaction: rash, itching, swelling, severe dizziness, trouble breathing.If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
Precautions
- Before taking this product, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to any of its ingredients; or to fish or soy products; or if you have any other allergies.This medication should not be used if you have certain medical conditions.
- Before taking this medication, consult your doctor or pharmacist if you have: high calcium levels (hypercalcemia).Before taking this medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist your medical history, especially of: kidney disease, kidney stones, liver problems, vitamin B12 deficiency (pernicious anemia).Tell your doctor if you are pregnant before using this medication.This medication passes into breast milk.
- Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.
Missed Dose
- If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember.
- If it is near the time of the next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule.
- Do not double the dose to catch up.
Drug Interactions
- Your doctor or pharmacist may already be aware of any possible drug interactions and may be monitoring you for them.
- Do not start, stop, or change the dosage of any medicine before checking with them first.Before using this medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist of all prescription and nonprescription/herbal drugs you may use, especially: certain anti-seizure drugs (hydantoins such as phenytoin, ethotoin), "blood thinners" (e.g., warfarin, heparins), chloramphenicol, methotrexate, levodopa, other vitamins/supplements.Calcium can decrease the absorption of other drugs such as estramustine, levothyroxine, tetracycline antibiotics (e.g., doxycycline, minocycline), and quinolone antibiotics (e.g., ciprofloxacin, levofloxacin).
- Therefore, separate your doses of these medications as far as possible from your doses of supplements that contain calcium.
- Ask your doctor or pharmacist about how long you should wait between doses and for help finding a dosing schedule that will work with all your medications.Folic acid may affect certain laboratory tests for vitamin B12 deficiency, resulting in false test results.
- Untreated vitamin B12 deficiency may result in serious nerve problems (e.g., peripheral neuropathy with numbness/tingling symptoms).
