- Do not share this medication with others.
Storage
- Store unopened foil pouches in the refrigerator at 36-46 degrees F (2-8 degrees C).
- If necessary, this product may also be stored at room temperature below 86 degrees F (30 degrees C) for up to 14 days.
- Keep all medicines away from children and pets.
Overdose
- Symptoms of overdose may include: fainting, painful/prolonged erection.
How To Use
- Read the Patient Information Leaflet provided by your pharmacist before you start using alprostadil and each time you get a refill.
- Learn all usage instructions in the product package.
- If any of the information is unclear, consult your doctor or pharmacist.This medication is used by inserting the suppository into the penis as directed by your doctor.
- Dosage is based on your medical condition and response to therapy.
- This medication should usually work within 5-10 minutes to produce an erection that lasts for about 30-60 minutes.
- The manufacturer recommends that you use no more than 2 doses in a 24-hour period.Inform your doctor if your condition persists or worsens (e.g., the drug does not produce an erection or it becomes more difficult to get an erection).
Side Effects
- Penis/testicle/groin pain, minor bleeding or spotting from the penis, dizziness, swelling (especially of leg veins), and rapid heartbeat may occur.
- If any of these effects persist or worsen, tell your doctor or pharmacist promptly.Remember that your doctor has prescribed this medication because he or she has judged that the benefit to you is greater than the risk of side effects.
- Many people using this medication do not have serious side effects.Tell your doctor immediately if any of these unlikely but serious side effects occur: fainting.In the very unlikely event you have a painful or prolonged erection lasting 4 or more hours, stop using this drug and seek immediate medical attention, or permanent problems could occur.In female partners, vaginal burning/itching may occur.
- It is not clear if this side effect is caused by the medication or sexual intercourse itself.
- The use of a water-based lubricant may help prevent vaginal irritation.A very serious allergic reaction to this drug is rare.
- However, seek immediate medical attention if you notice any symptoms of a serious allergic reaction, including: rash, itching, swelling, severe dizziness, trouble breathing.If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
Precautions
- Before using alprostadil, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to it; or if you have any other allergies.This medication should not be used if you have certain medical conditions.
- Before using this medicine, consult your doctor or pharmacist if you have: genito-urinary tract disorder (e.g., urethral stricture/obstruction, urethritis, inflammation/infection of the head of the penis), indwelling urethral catheter.Before using this medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist your medical history, especially of: penis conditions (e.g., angulation, cavernosal fibrosis, Peyronie's disease), bleeding disorders, blood system cancers (e.g., leukemia, multiple myeloma), heart disease, low blood pressure, sickle cell anemia.This drug may make you dizzy.
- Use caution while driving, using machinery, or doing any activity that requires alertness.
- Limit alcoholic beverages.Use of this drug does not protect against sexually transmitted diseases (e.g., HIV, hepatitis B, gonorrhea, syphilis).
- To decrease your risk of infection, always use an effective barrier method such as a latex or polyurethane condom during all sexual activity.
- Consult your doctor or pharmacist for more details.This medication is not for use in women.
- If this drug is used by a male for sexual intercourse with a pregnant woman, an effective barrier method such as a latex or polyurethane condom should be used.

- Your doctor or pharmacist may already be aware of any possible drug interactions and may be monitoring you for them.
- Do not start, stop, or change the dosage of any medicine before checking with your doctor or pharmacist first.Before using this medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist of all prescription and nonprescription/herbal products you may use, especially of: "blood thinners" (e.g., warfarin, heparin), high blood pressure medicines.
