Multivit W/Fluoride & Iron
Uses
This medication is a combination product of vitamins, iron, and fluoride. It is used to supplement the diets of infants and children to prevent deficiencies due to inadequate intake. Vitamins are the building blocks of the body. Iron is needed for the body to make red blood cells. Fluoride is used to prevent dental cavities.
Notes
- Vitamins and iron are contained in the foods we eat.
- It is important to maintain a well-balanced diet.Check the fluoride content of your water supply by asking local town or city officials.
- Fluoride supplements are not necessary if the fluoride content in the water supply is greater than 0.6 ppm.
- If your water supply changes, check with your doctor or dentist to determine if extra fluoride is still necessary.
Storage
- Store at room temperature between 59-86 degrees F (between 15-30 degrees C) away from heat and moisture.
- Do not store in the bathroom.
- Keep all medicines away from children and pets.
Overdose
- Symptoms of overdose may include vomiting, stomach/abdominal pain, green diarrhea, tarry stools, increased salivation, drowsiness, or seizures.
How To Use
- Take this medication by mouth, usually once daily or as directed by your doctor.
- If stomach upset occurs, you may take it with food.
- However, certain foods may decrease the absorption of this product.
- Consult your pharmacist for more details.Take this medication at least 2 hours before or after taking any products containing calcium (including milk, yogurt, and other dairy products), aluminum, or magnesium (e.g., certain antacids or laxatives).Chew the tablet thoroughly before swallowing.
- If your child cannot safely chew and swallow this tablet, consult your doctor or pharmacist for advice.The fluoride in this chewable tablet can be absorbed directly into the teeth during and after chewing and also absorbed into your body from your stomach.
- Therefore, it is best not to eat, drink, or rinse your mouth for 30 minutes after taking this product.Follow your doctor's instructions and do not exceed the recommended dose.
Side Effects
- Stomach upset, constipation, or nausea may occur.
- If any of these effects persist or worsen, contact your doctor or pharmacist promptly.This product contains iron, which may make the stools turn black.
- This is due to unabsorbed iron and is not harmful.If your teeth become mottled or stained, notify your dentist or your doctor.
- This may be a result of excess fluoride.Remember that your doctor has prescribed this medication because the benefit to you is greater than the risk of side effects.
- Many people using this medication do not have serious side effects.A very serious allergic reaction to this drug is unlikely, but seek immediate medical attention if it occurs.
- Symptoms of a serious allergic reaction may include: rash, itching, swelling, severe dizziness, trouble breathing.If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
Precautions
- Before taking multivitamins and iron with fluoride, tell your doctor if you are allergic to any of the ingredients; or if you have any other allergies.Before taking this medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist your medical history.Tell your doctor if you are pregnant before using this medication.This product passes into breast milk.
- Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.
Missed Dose
- If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember.
- If it is near the time of the next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule.
- Do not double the dose to catch up.
Drug Interactions

- Do not start, stop or change the dosage of any medicine before checking with them first.Before using this medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist of all prescription and nonprescription/herbal products you may use, especially of: certain antibiotics (e.g., quinolones such as ciprofloxacin, tetracyclines), thyroid preparations, penicillamine.This product may affect the results of certain lab tests.
