How To Use
- HOW TO USE THIS MEDICATION: Take as directed by your doctor.
- It is best taken with a fatty meal.
- It may take from several days to several months to complete treatment.
- This depends upon the type and location of the infection.
- Continue to take this medication until the full prescribed amount is finished even if symptoms disappear after a few days.
- Stopping the medication too early may allow the infection to continue, resulting in a return of the infection.
- Shake the liquid form well.
Side Effects
- You may experience a headache when first taking griseofulvin.
- It should disappear during treatment.
- You may also notice diarrhea, nausea, gas, vomiting, fatigue, dizziness or insomnia as your body adjusts to the medication.
- If these symptoms persist or get worse, contact your doctor.
- Notify your doctor if you experience skin rash, hives, itching, increased sensitivity to sunlight, yellow eyes or skin, fever, soreness of the mouth, tongue or throat.
- If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
Precautions
- Avoid alcoholic beverages while you are taking this drug unless your doctor gives permission.
- Drinking alcohol during treatment with this drug could result in a rapid heart rate and flushing of the skin.
- This medication should be used cautiously during pregnancy only if clearly needed.
- It is not known if this medication appears in breast milk.
- Consult with your doctor before breast-feeding.
- Griseofulvin may increase your sensitivity to sunlight.
- Wear protective clothing and an appropriate sunscreen.
- Avoid sunlamps.
Missed Dose
- If you miss a dose, take as soon as remembered; do not take if it is almost time for the next dose, instead, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule.
- Do not "double-up" the dose to catch up.
Drug Interactions
- Tell your doctor of all prescription and nonprescription drugs you may use, especially of "blood thinners".
- This drug may interfere with the effectiveness of birth control pills.
- Discuss using other methods of birth control with your doctor.
- Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.
