Fentanyl Citrate Sublimaze Uses Prevents or treats pain during and after surgery or other medical procedure. How To Use APPEARANCE: Injectable. Your doctor will prescribe your exact dose and how often it should be given. This medicine is given through a needle placed in one of your veins. It may also be given as a shot into one of your muscles. You will receive this medicine in a hospital or surgery center. A nurse or other trained health professional will give you this medicine. Side Effects Call your doctor right away if you notice any of these side effects: Allergic reaction: Itching or hives, swelling in your face or hands, swelling or tingling in your mouth or throat, chest tightness, trouble breathing. Confusion or hallucinations (seeing or hearing things that are not really there). Lightheadedness or fainting after you awaken from surgery. Muscle pain, weakness, or tenderness. Problems with balance or walking. Shallow or difficult breathing. Slow heartbeat. Stiff or rigid muscles, tight feeling in your throat. Trouble swallowing or speaking. Twitching or muscle movements you cannot control. Precautions You should not receive this medicine if you have had an allergic reaction to fentanyl. Drug Interactions Make sure your doctor knows if you are pregnant or breast feeding. Tell your doctor if you have heart disease or heart rhythm problems, high blood pressure, asthma, emphysema (COPD), or other lung problems. Make sure your doctor knows if you have kidney disease or liver disease, or if you have ever had a head injury or a brain tumor. This medicine may make you dizzy or drowsy. Avoid driving, using machines, or doing anything else that requires you to be fully alert. This medicine may cause constipation. This is more common if you use it for a long time. Ask your doctor if you should also use a laxative to prevent and treat constipation.
