Reason: bronchitis/lung infection Date: 25 June 2007
Side Effects
Nausea, vomiting, severe stomach pains, explosive diarrhea. Nausea and severe stomach pains when taken on an empty stomach; vomiting and extremely urgent diarrhea when taken with food. Two weeks later and my digestive system has still not recovered from taking this crap.

Additional Thoughts
I was taking this drug for bronchitis, and was prescribed it because it's not very expensive. You definitely get what you pay for! The past three weeks have been hell; the first week AFTER I stopped it I had diarrhea and stomach pains every day; into the second week now and the diarrhea has stopped but still getting the stomach pains. I have overactive digestion as it is, and this medication has almost completely killed my stomach. Definitely stock up on probiotic yogourt, as you need to eat it at least 3x daily restore the good bacteria in your stomach that this crap kills off. To top it off, I now have to start a new script (different medication thankfully) to treat my bronchitis, but I have to wait until all my side effects have subsided, hopefully by the end of this week. I'm one of the lucky ones who has taken this medication; my aunt was on it for the same reason, and was hospitalized after a few days because her stomach began to bleed.

Reason: Chest infection Date: 30 June 2007
Side Effects
Appalling stomach cramps, stomach bloated to twice normal size, indigestion beyond belief and not relieved by burping, nausea to the point where I cannot put anything in my mouth, horrible taste in my mouth. Pain partially relieved by taking paracetamol, but swallowing the pills is difficult without vomiting. Have not slept. It really hurts!

Additional Thoughts
The chest infection does seem better, and it had been pretty bad. I have had problems with other antibiotics and this was my first time with erythromycin. I don't want to take any more tablets, but I don't want the chest infection back either. Tricky one.

Reason: sore throat allergic to penicillin Date: 6 July 2007
Side Effects
loose bowel movement on first morning reckoned that was the medication getting rid of all the impurities in my gut. hot sweats again I put that down to my body fighting the infection. hunger pangs.

Additional Thoughts
I had cold like symptoms without sneezing or runny nose. My throat felt very rough and sore and I was producing green mucus. My upper chest was tight and painful. However I noticed an almost immediate improvement taking this medicine and I hope I don't experience any of the dreadful side effects that others have written about! I eat yogurt almost everyday anyway so maybe this helps. I have not had any tummy pain or wind.
