  • Do not share this medication with others.Laboratory and/or medical tests (e.g., blood sugar levels, blood electrolytes) should be performed from time to time to monitor your progress or check for side effects.
  • Consult your doctor for more details.

  • Store at room temperature away from heat, light and moisture.
  • Different storage temperatures are needed for products from different manufacturers, so consult your pharmacist for more information.
  • Keep all medicines away from children and pets.Consult your pharmacist for details about storage and expiration after mixing this product with other IV medications.
  • Discard any unused liquid.

  • Symptoms of overdose may include trouble breathing or swelling.

How To Use
  • This medication is given by vein as directed by your doctor.
  • The dosage is based on your medical condition and response to therapy.Follow all instructions for proper mixing with other IV medications.

Side Effects
  • Redness, swelling, pain, or irritation at the injection site may occur.
  • If any of these effects persist or worsen, notify your doctor or pharmacist promptly.Remember that your doctor has prescribed this medication because the benefit to you is greater than the risk of side effects.
  • Many people using this medication do not have serious side effects.Tell your doctor immediately if any of these unlikely but serious side effects occur: fever, trouble breathing, swelling of ankles/feet.High blood sugar (hyperglycemia) can occur during an injection of dextrose, especially in diabetics.
  • Symptoms of high blood sugar include thirst, increased urination, confusion, drowsiness, flushing, rapid breathing, and fruity breath odor.
  • If these symptoms occur, tell your doctor immediately.A very serious allergic reaction to this drug is unlikely, but seek immediate medical attention if it occurs.
  • Symptoms of a serious allergic reaction may include: rash, itching, swelling, severe dizziness, trouble breathing.If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.

  • Before taking dextrose, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you have any allergies.Before using this medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist your medical history, especially of: diabetes, heart problems (e.g., congestive heart failure), kidney problems, fluid balance problems (e.g., hypovolemia), low levels of potassium (hypokalemia), vitamin B deficiencies, swelling (edema).This product contains aluminum, which may build up in your body if you use this product for a long time.
  • This buildup may have harmful effects in certain patients (e.g., patients with kidney problems, including premature newborns).
  • Consult your doctor for more details.Infants may be more sensitive to the effects of the drug.This medication should be used only when clearly needed during pregnancy.
  • Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor.It is not known whether this drug passes into breast milk.
  • Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.
