Brompheniramine

Uses
Treats severe allergic reactions (anaphylaxis). Given to people who cannot take brompheniramine by mouth. This medicine is an antihistamine.



How To Use
  • APPEARANCE: Injectable. Your doctor will prescribe your exact dose and tell you how often it should be given.
  • This medicine is given as a shot under your skin, into a muscle, or into a vein. A nurse or other trained health professional will give you this medicine.

Side Effects
  • Call your doctor right away if you notice any of these side effects: Allergic reaction: Itching or hives, swelling in your face or hands, swelling or tingling in your mouth or throat, chest tightness, trouble breathing. Light-headedness or fainting. Pain where the shot was given. Seizures. Unusual bleeding, bruising, or weakness.

Precautions
  • You should not use this medicine if you have had an allergic reaction to brompheniramine or parabens (preservatives used in some medicines).
  • You should not use this medicine if you are using now or have used an MAO inhibitor (MAOI) such as Eldepryl®, Marplan®, Nardil®, or Parnate® within the past 14 days.


Drug Interactions
  • Make sure your doctor knows if you are pregnant or breast feeding.
  • Tell your doctor if you have asthma, glaucoma, an enlarged prostate, or trouble urinating. Young children and older adults (over 60 years old) are more likely to have certain side effects from this medicine.
  • Children may seem more excited than usual.
  • Older people may have dizziness or drowsiness.
  • Call your doctor if you have any questions about this, or if the side effects are serious. If this medicine makes you dizzy or drowsy, you should avoid driving, using machines, or doing anything else that could be dangerous if you are not alert.
