It has been used to help maintain and restore the normal balance of intestinal bacteria when the balance has been upset (e.g., with the use of antibiotics, certain stomach/intestinal conditions). Having a normal balance of intestinal bacteria helps to decrease episodes of diarrhea, protects against undesirable bacteria infecting the gut, and helps with proper food digestion and absorption of vitamins and minerals. Some dietary supplement products have been found to contain possibly harmful impurities/additives.
