Thiamine is a B vitamin that helps your body to use carbohydrates for energy. It is also important for normal function of your heart, muscles, and nervous system. Most people get enough thiamine in their diet, but certain health conditions (e.g., alcoholism, poor nutrition, pregnancy, stomach/intestinal diseases) can cause a deficiency in thiamine. Uses
This medication is used to treat or prevent a lack of thiamine (deficiency) when the form taken by mouth cannot be used or would not work as well as the injection. Thiamine is a B vitamin that helps your body to use carbohydrates for energy. It is also important for normal function of your heart, muscles, and nervous system. Most people get enough thiamine in their diet, but certain health conditions (e.g., alcoholism, poor nutrition, pregnancy, stomach/intestinal diseases) can cause a deficiency in thiamine. Serious thiamine deficiency can lead to nerve damage, heart failure, and mental/mood conditions (e.g., confusion, psychosis).
Notes
- Do not share this medication with others.This product is not a substitute for a proper diet.
- Remember that it is best to get your vitamins from healthy foods.
- Thiamine is commonly found in foods such as enriched bread/cereal/pasta, whole grains (especially wheat germ), lean meats (especially pork), fish, dried beans, peas, and soybeans.
Storage
- Store the unmixed product at room temperature between 59-86 degrees F (15-30 degrees C) away from light and moisture.
- Do not freeze.
- Keep all medicines away from children and pets.After mixing in IV fluids, store at room temperature or in the refrigerator and use/discard within 24 hours.
How To Use
- Read and learn all preparation and usage instructions from the manufacturer.
- If your product needs to be mixed, follow all instructions for proper mixing with the correct IV fluids.

- Before using, check the product visually for particles or discoloration.

Side Effects
- Pain/redness/soreness at the injection site may occur.
- This medication may also infrequently cause nausea, restlessness, feelings of warmth, sweating, or weakness.
- If any of these effects persist or worsen, tell your doctor or pharmacist promptly.Remember that your doctor has prescribed this medication because he or she has judged that the benefit to you is greater than the risk of side effects.
- Many people using this medication do not have serious side effects.Tell your doctor immediately if any of these rare but very serious side effects occur: bluish lips/skin/nails, dark/tarry stools.A very serious allergic reaction to this drug is rare.
- However, seek immediate medical attention if you notice any symptoms of a serious allergic reaction, including: rash, itching, swelling (especially of throat/face), severe dizziness, trouble breathing.If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
Precautions
- Before using this medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you have had any previous reaction to thiamine; or if you have any other allergies.
- Your doctor may recommend that you receive a smaller test dose before starting your regular dose.
- Consult your doctor or pharmacist for more information.Before using this medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist your medical history.This product may contain aluminum, which can infrequently build up to dangerous levels in the body.
- The risk may be increased if this product is used for an extended time, especially in people with kidney disease.
- Tell your doctor immediately if you notice any symptoms of too much aluminum in the body such as muscle weakness, bone pain, or mental changes.This medication has not been shown to increase risk to an unborn baby when given during pregnancy.
- Although this medication is unlikely to harm an unborn baby, tell your doctor if you are pregnant before using this medication.It is not known whether this medication passes into breast milk.
- Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.
Missed Dose
- If you miss a dose, use it as soon as you remember.
- If it is near the time of the next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule.
- Do not double the dose to catch up.
Drug Interactions
- Your doctor or pharmacist may already be aware of any possible drug interactions and may be monitoring you for them.
- Do not start, stop, or change the dosage of any medicine before checking with your doctor or pharmacist first.Before using this medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist of all prescription and nonprescription/herbal products you may use, especially of: other vitamins/nutritional supplements.This medication may interfere with certain laboratory tests (e.g., uric acid), possibly causing false test results.
