Uses
Benzonatate dulls the cough reflex. It is used to relieve a cough due to colds or allergies. Its effects last for up to eight hours.


Storage
  • Store at room temperature between 59 and 86 degrees F (between 15 and 30 degrees C) away from moisture and sunlight.
  • Do not refrigerate.


Overdose
  • If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately.
  • Symptoms of overdose may include restlessness, tremors, and seizures.

How To Use
  • Benzonatate must be swallowed whole.
  • Do not break or chew the capsules or allow them to dissolve in your mouth since the medication can numb the mouth and throat.
  • It is recommended to drink plenty of fluids (6-8 glasses a day) to help relieve cold symptoms.

Side Effects
  • Stomach upset, nausea, constipation, drowsiness, mild dizziness, nasal congestion or headache may occur the first several days as your body adjusts to the medication.
  • If these effects continue or become bothersome, inform your doctor.
  • Notify your doctor if you develop: skin rash, numbness of the chest, tremors.
  • Because Benzonatate may cause drowsiness or dizziness, use caution performing tasks requiring alertness.
  • If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.

Precautions
  • Tell your doctor if you have any allergies or illness.
  • Benzonatate should be used only if clearly needed during pregnancy.
  • Since it is not known if Benzonatate is found in breast milk; consult your doctor before breast-feeding.

Missed Dose
  • If you miss a dose, take it as soon as remembered; do not take if it is almost time for the next dose, instead, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule.
  • Do not "double-up the dose to catch up.

Works really well in dulling the need to cough, especially when lying down but man, wish it was cheaper.
