Reduces the risk of death from a heart attack. This medicine is a beta blocker.
How To Use
- APPEARANCE: Injectable.
Your doctor will prescribe your exact dose and tell you how often it should be given.
- This medicine is given through a needle placed in one of your veins.
A nurse or other trained health professional will give you this medicine.
Side Effects
- Call your doctor right away if you notice any of these side effects:
Allergic reaction: Itching or hives, swelling in your face or hands, swelling or tingling in your mouth or throat, chest tightness, trouble breathing.
Fever or sore throat.
Light-headedness or fainting.
Shortness of breath, cold sweat and bluish-colored skin.
Swelling in your hands, ankles or feet.
Numbness or tingling in your hands, feet, or lips.
Dark-colored urine or pale stools.

Nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, pain in your upper stomach.
Yellowing of your skin or the white of your eyes.
Slow or fast heartbeat.
Chest pain.
Unusual bleeding, bruising, or weakness.
Extreme weakness, shallow breathing.
Precautions
- You should not receive this medicine if you have had an allergic reaction to atenolol or if you are pregnant.
- You should not receive this medicine if you have heart rhythm problems (arrhythmia) or congestive heart failure.
Drug Interactions
- Using this medicine while you are pregnant can harm your unborn baby.
- Use an effective form of birth control to keep from getting pregnant.
- If you think you have become pregnant while using the medicine, tell your doctor right away.
Make sure your doctor knows if you are breast feeding.
Make sure your doctor knows if you have diabetes, kidney disease, heart disease, or thyroid disease, or tumors such as an adrenal gland tumor (pheochromocytoma).
Make sure your doctor knows if you have asthma, bronchitis or other allergies.
