Argatroban

Uses
Treats or prevents blood clots in patients with bleeding problems caused by another medicine called heparin. Also given to patients before having balloon angioplasty, a procedure to open a clogged artery.



How To Use
  • APPEARANCE: Injectable. Your doctor will prescribe your exact dose and tell you how often it should be given.
  • This medicine is given through a needle placed in one of your veins. This medicine is given in a hospital.A nurse or other trained health professional will give you this medicine.

Side Effects
  • Call your doctor right away if you notice any of these side effects: Allergic reaction: Itching or hives, swelling in your face or hands, swelling or tingling in your mouth or throat, chest tightness, trouble breathing. Black, tarry stools. Blood in your urine. Chest pain. Lightheadedness or fainting. Unusual bleeding, bruising, or weakness. Vomit that looks like coffee grounds.

Precautions
  • You should not receive this medicine if you have ever had an allergic reaction to argatroban.
  • This medicine should not be given if you have severe bleeding from any cause.


Drug Interactions
  • Make sure your doctor knows if you are pregnant or breast feeding. Tell your doctor if you have hemophilia or any other bleeding problem.
  • Also tell your doctor if you have a stomach ulcer, liver disease, very high blood pressure, or if you have had a stroke or recent surgery.
