Anzemet Uses This medication is used to prevent or treat nausea and vomiting. Notes Do not share this medication with others. Storage Store the vial or ampule at room temperature between 68 and 77 degrees F (20-25 degrees C) away from light and moisture. If diluted with compatible IV fluids (consult your pharmacist for details), this product is stable at room temperature for 24 hours or refrigerated for 48 hours. If diluted with juice, the mixture may be kept up to 2 hours at room temperature before use. Photos Anzemet (dolasetron) 20 mg/ml Anzemet (dolasetron) 100 mg How To Use HOW TO USE THIS MEDICATION: This drug is given by vein (IV), generally as a single dose 30 minutes before certain cancer chemotherapy, or during/after surgery. This liquid product may be mixed in apple or apple-grape juice for use in children, given one hour before cancer chemotherapy or within 2 hours before surgery. This drug product should be checked visually for particles or discoloration before use. If present, do not use the liquid. Containers of this product are for single use only. Side Effects Headache or dizziness may occur. If these effects persist or worsen, notify your doctor promptly. You may experience redness, irritation or swelling at the injection site. If this continues or worsens, contact your doctor. Unlikely but report promptly irregular/fast/slow heartbeat, chest pain, chills or unusual change in amount of urine. Very unlikely but report promptly fainting, rash, stomach pain or unusual bleeding or bruising. In the unlikely event you have an allergic reaction to this drug seek immediate medical attention. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include rash, itching, swelling, dizziness or trouble breathing. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist. Precautions Before using this drug, tell your doctor your medical history, including any allergies (especially drug allergies), heart problems or low mineral levels (electrolyte disturbances such as low potassium or magnesium). Since this drug may cause dizziness, caution is advised when performing hazardous tasks (e.g., driving). Limit alcohol intake, since it may aggravate drug side effects. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant before using this medication. It is not known whether this drug is excreted into breast milk. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding. Missed Dose If the dose is missed, contact your doctor immediately. Drug Interactions Tell your doctor of all nonprescription and prescription medication you may use, especially drugs which can affect the heart (QT interval prolonged) such as astemizole, terfenadine, cisapride, pentamidine, tricyclic antidepressants (e.g., amitriptyline), phenothiazines (e.g., chlorpromazine), pimozide, sparfloxacin or antiarrhythmics (e.g., quinidine, procainamide, amiodarone, bepridil, atenolol). Also report use of diuretics ("water pills"), cyclophosphamide, anthracycline cancer drugs (e.g., idarubicin, doxorubicin, daunorubicin), cimetidine, rifamycins (e.g., rifampin), phenytoin or carbamazepine. This product should not be mixed with other drugs in the same syringe or same liquid. Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval. Share and Enjoy!
