Ancobon Uses This medication is used to treat a severe fungal infection. Notes This medication is usually administered initially in the hospital where your condition can be monitored closely. Laboratory tests will be done periodically to be sure the drug is working properly and to monitor for possible side effects. Storage Store at room temperature between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 to 30 degrees C) away from heat, moisture and light. Do not store in the bathroom. Photos FLUCYTOSINE (Ancobon®) is an How To Use This medication is taken by mouth usually at 6 hour intervals. To reduce stomach upset, it is best to swallow the capsules for each dose over a period of fifteen minutes. Do not swallow all the capsules for one dose at the same time. Continue using this medication for the full time prescribed. Stopping therapy too soon may result in ineffective treatment. Side Effects This medication may cause nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, headache, itching, dry mouth, weakness, fatigue. If these symptoms continue or become bothersome, inform your doctor. Notify your doctor if you develop a skin rash, jaundice, chest pain, breathing trouble, dizziness, mental confusion, hearing loss, tingling of the hands or feet or experience uncontrollable movements while taking this medication. This medication can affect your kidney, liver and blood. Tests will be done to monitor for this. Your therapy will be adjusted accordingly. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist. Precautions Tell your doctor if you have any pre-existing liver disease, kidney disease, bone marrow disorders or any allergies. This medication should be used only if clearly needed during pregnancy. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor. It is not known if this medication appears in breast milk. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding. Missed Dose It is important to take each dose at the scheduled time. If you miss a dose, take it as soon as remembered; do not take it if it is near the time for the next dose, instead, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule. Do not "double-up" the dose to catch up. Drug Interactions Tell your doctor of any over-the-counter or prescription medication you may take especially amphotericin B, or cytosine.
