Anagen Plus Uses This combination medication is used to treat mild pain (e.g., headache, backache, muscle pain, cold/flu aches and pains) and to reduce fever. Acetaminophen helps to decrease the pain and fever. Phenyltoloxamine is an antihistamine that helps to decrease symptoms of a cold such as a runny nose. Notes Do not share this medication with others.This medication has been prescribed for your current condition only. Do not use it later for another condition unless told to do so by your doctor. A different medication may be necessary in that case.Laboratory and/or medical tests (e.g., liver and kidney function test) may be performed periodically to monitor your progress or check for side effects. Consult your doctor for more details. Storage Store at room temperature between 59-86 degrees F (15-30 degrees C) away from light and moisture. Do not store in the bathroom. Keep all medicines away from children and pets. Overdose Symptoms of overdose may include: nausea/vomiting, severe stomach/abdominal pain, mental/mood changes, severe drowsiness. How To Use Take this medication by mouth with or without food, usually every 4 hours or as directed by your doctor. To make sure you have the correct dose, measure the liquid medication with a dose-measuring spoon or device, not a household spoon.The dosage is based on your medical condition and response to therapy. Pain medications work best if they are used as the first signs of pain occur. If you wait until the symptoms have worsened, the medication may not work as well.This medication contains acetaminophen. Do not take more acetaminophen than recommended. (See also Side Effects and Precautions sections.)Inform your doctor if your condition persists or worsens. For pain, do not take this product for more than 5 days for children and 10 days for adults. For fever, do not take this product for more than 3 days unless directed by your doctor. Side Effects Dizziness, drowsiness, constipation, stomach upset, blurred vision, or dry mouth/nose/throat may occur. If any of these effects persist or worsen, notify your doctor or pharmacist promptly.To relieve dry mouth, suck on (sugarless) hard candy or ice chips, chew (sugarless) gum, drink water, or use a saliva substitute.Remember that your doctor has prescribed this medication because he or she has judged that the benefit to you is greater than the risk of side effects. Many people using this medication do not have serious side effects.Tell your doctor immediately if any of these unlikely but serious side effects occur: difficulty urinating, pounding/irregular heartbeat, mental/mood changes, unusual weakness, vision changes.Tell your doctor immediately if any of these rare but very serious side effects occur: easy bleeding/bruising, new signs of infection (e.g., fever, persistent sore throat).If you do not have liver problems, the adult maximum dose of acetaminophen is 4 grams per day (4000 milligrams). If you take more than the maximum daily amount, it may cause serious (possibly fatal) liver disease. Tell your doctor immediately if you have any of the following symptoms of liver damage: persistent nausea/vomiting, yellowing eyes/skin, dark urine, severe stomach/abdominal pain, extreme tiredness.A very serious allergic reaction to this drug is rare. However, seek immediate medical attention if you notice any symptoms of a serious allergic reaction, including: rash, itching, swelling, severe dizziness, trouble breathing.If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist. Precautions Before taking this medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to acetaminophen or phenyltoloxamine; or to other antihistamines (e.g., diphenhydramine); or if you have any other allergies.Before using this medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist your medical history, especially of: liver disease, kidney disease, breathing problems (e.g., asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease-COPD), glaucoma, difficulty urinating (e.g., due to enlarged prostate gland), stomach problems (e.g., ulcers, obstruction), overactive thyroid gland (hyperthyroidism), heart disease, high blood pressure, seizure, mental/mood disorders.This drug may make you dizzy or drowsy or cause blurred vision. Use caution while driving, using machinery, or taking part in any other activity that requires alertness or clear vision. Avoid alcoholic beverages because they may increase the risk of this drug's side effects.This product contains acetaminophen, which may cause liver damage. Daily use of alcohol, especially when combined with acetaminophen, may increase your risk for liver damage. Check with your doctor or pharmacist for more information.Caution is advised when using this drug in the elderly because they may be more sensitive to its effects, especially dizziness and drowsiness.Caution is advised when using this drug in children because they are more sensitive to the effects of antihistamines. This drug can often cause excitement in young children instead of drowsiness.During pregnancy, this medication should be used only when clearly needed. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor.This drug may pass into breast milk and could have undesirable effects on a nursing infant. Therefore, breast-feeding is not recommended while using this drug. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding. Missed Dose If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it is near the time of the next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule. Do not double the dose to catch up. Drug Interactions Your doctor or pharmacist may already be aware of any possible drug interactions and may be monitoring you for them. Do not start, stop, or change the dosage of any medicine before checking with them first.Before using this medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist of all prescription and nonprescription/herbal products you may use, especially of: anticholinergics (e.g., atropine, scopolamine), anti-seizure medications (e.g., phenytoin, carbamazepine), "blood thinners" (e.g., warfarin), drugs for Parkinson's disease (e.g., anticholinergics such as benztropine), isoniazid, MAO inhibitors (e.g., furazolidone, isocarboxazid, linezolid, moclobemide, phenelzine, procarbazine, rasagiline, selegiline, tranylcypromine), phenothiazines (e.g., chlorpromazine), tricyclic antidepressants (e.g., amitriptyline).Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you also take drugs that cause drowsiness such as: certain antihistamines (e.g., diphenhydramine), medicine for sleep or anxiety (e.g., alprazolam, diazepam, zolpidem), muscle relaxants, narcotic pain relievers (e.g., codeine), psychiatric medicines (e.g., risperidone, trazodone).Check the labels on all your medicines (e.g., cough-and-cold products) because they may contain drowsiness-causing ingredients. Ask your pharmacist about using those products safely.Acetaminophen is an ingredient in many nonprescription products and in some combination prescription medications. Read the labels carefully before taking other pain relievers, fever reducers, or cold products to see if they also contain acetaminophen. Consult your pharmacist if you are uncertain whether your other prescription or nonprescription products contain acetaminophen.
